We are thrilled to announce that Aquada Box + Pack Hub is launching a new product line called “Bagasse“. Bagasse is made from sugarcane residue, these biodegradable alternatives are proof that sustainability and high performance can go hand in hand.
Bagasse is a fibrous material left behind after harvesting sugarcane. It has a multitude of uses, especially in the food service packaging industry as a sustainable alternative to conventional plastic, and it is durable and ecofriendly. There are four amazing things we want to educate you about in this Blogpost, from the benefits of bagasse, and why its a healthy alternative to plastic, why we are introducing it, and what to expect from in this product line. So shall we?
BENEFITS OF BAGASSE
- Sturdy & moisture/grease resistant: products are very strong, even stronger than paper. It resists leaks and holds up hot or oily foods without needing greaseproof linings.
- Microwave & freezer safe: This product material can handle reheating and cold storage without losing shape.
- Ecofriendly: Unlike plastic, it is produced without harmful chemicals or petroleum additives, making it safe for food contact and gentle on the environment. Choosing products made from this biodegradable material means reducing waste and embracing sustainability with every package.
- Reusable resource: since it is a byproduct of sugarcane, bagasse helps turn waste into value, forming part of a circular economy.
WHY BAGASSE IS A BETTER ALTERNATIVE TO PLASTICS?
Plastics are made from petroleum, a non-renewable resource that requires large amounts of energy to process. Worse still, plastics do not degrade naturally over time. Instead, they persist in the environment for hundreds of years, filling up landfills and polluting oceans. According to Greenpeace, around 12.7 million tons of plastic enter our oceans every year, severely harming marine life. Sea turtles, fish, and seabirds often mistake plastic for food, leading to injuries or death. Microplastics have also been found in drinking water and food supplies, raising health concerns for humans.
In contrast, Bagasse is the dry fibrous residue left after extracting juice from sugarcane, and it is a natural, eco-friendly alternative. It is 100% compostable and biodegradable, meaning it breaks down quickly without harming the environment. Unlike plastic, bagasse returns to the soil, enriching it instead of polluting it.
Bagasse packaging is the future of sustainability. By opting to use these products, you are actively helping to reduce the devastating effects that plastics have on our environment due to their lack of biodegradable properties.
